INMO members at Naas General Hospital held a lunchtime protest on Thursday, 22 January 2026, as the union continues to press HSE management over what it describes as persistent and unresolved staffing deficits at the hospital.
The protest comes ahead of industrial action due to begin on 9 February, after the INMO served notice of industrial action on HSE management at Naas General Hospital. The INMO says service expansion has proceeded without adequate resourcing and that this is creating significant clinical risk.
The union has highlighted staffing shortfalls in the Emergency Department, stating staffing is 22% below the recommended level of 62.5 WTE under the 2022 Safe Staffing Framework, and that ED attendances rose from 29,592 (2022) to 37,654 (2025). It also said over 5,004 patients have been cared for on trolleys since July 2024, and pointed to 83% occupancy as the recognised safe level, which it says is breached daily.
