Five Candidates Elected To NMBI Board

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland has named the five candidates deemed elected in its 2026 Board election. Their appointments still require confirmation by the Minister for Health.
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) said on 1 October that five candidates had been deemed elected to its Board following the close of voting in the 2026 election. Each appointment remains subject to confirmation by the Minister for Health.
Karina O’Sullivan was elected for intellectual disability nursing, Caroline Earley for midwifery and Elaine Dunne for nursing in the care of older persons. Mark Johnston was deemed elected for psychiatric nursing and Louise Mullarkey for public health nursing.
The three contested categories were intellectual disability nursing, midwifery and care of older persons. NMBI had earlier said that only one nominee was received in each of the psychiatric and public health nursing categories, so no poll was held for those seats.
The regulator has not said in its result notice when ministerial confirmation will be completed. Until then, the five people should be described as deemed elected, not as confirmed Board appointees.
