Visitor Restrictions at Tipperary University Hospital Amid Flu Outbreak

Infection prevention and control measures have led to updated visiting arrangements at Tipperary University Hospital as high flu and respiratory case numbers affect ward operations.

In response to rising influenza and other respiratory virus cases impacting patient care areas, Tipperary University Hospital (TippUH) has updated its visiting arrangements effective 9 January 2026. The hospital announced that all general visiting will be suspended until further notice on the advice of infection prevention and control teams, reflecting both current seasonal pressures and efforts to limit in‑hospital transmission.

Visiting exceptions will be facilitated only under strict conditions, and must be organised in advance through the Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) or nurse in charge, who will assess the circumstances. These exceptions include:

  • Visits for patients approaching end‑of‑life
  • Visits for critically ill patients where family presence is clinically authorised

Hospital management and nursing leadership have emphasised that these measures are taken to safeguard vulnerable patients and curb the spread of infection. Hospital leadership have apologised for any inconvenience caused to patients and visitors.
